To insure that you are happy with your mosaic, I prefer to work from a photo, drawing or image provided by you. You could just tell me to make you "a train" or "a fish" but there is so much variety among trains and fishes that it really helps to have an image to work from. The image can be a photo, a drawing, or abstract design…whatever you want.
There are certain practical limitations to how detailed a mosaic can be at any given size, so if your image exceeds the level of detail possible, I will contact you to talk about whether the image should be cropped, simplified or changed.
I am more than happy to discuss your project by phone or answer any questions you have about what kind of images are suitable for the mosaic. I can be reached on my mobile from 9-5 pacific time at 231.584.2710. Calls during other hours will go to voicemail and I will return your call the following day during the hours listed above.
Two easy ways to send images:
- The quickest, easiest way is to reply to the confirmation email and attach an image
- Or, you can upload photos using the form on my website here:
http://www.johntunger.com/file_transfer.html.
It's quite simple to use and there are instructions on the page.
For best results, here are some guidelines for the image:
- You should design at the final image size (100%), with 100-150 dpi of information at actual artwork size.
- I can work from either CMYK (recommended) or RGB image files.
- Acceptable file formats are .jpg, .tiff, .eps, .AI, .psd or .pdf. Please do not send images as a Microsoft Word document.
The preferred format is .jpg.
The chart below shows minimum and maximum pixel requirements for your source image from which I will create your mosaic.
| Final Mosaic Size | Resolution | Pixel Size |
|---|---|---|
| 24x24 inches (2x2 feet) | 150 dpi (Max) | 3600x3600 |
| 100 dpi (Min) | 2400x2400 | |
| 36x60 inches (3x5 feet) | 150 dpi (Max) | 5400x9000 |
| 100 dpi (Min) | 3600x6000 | |
| 48x96 inches (4x8 feet) | 150 dpi (Max) | 7200x14400 |
